Rules & Terms
Adviser Forum is a peer discussion platform for UK financial services professionals. These rules protect members, their clients and the quality of the discussion. By using the forum you agree to follow them.
Not financial advice
Adviser Forum is an industry discussion platform for UK financial services professionals. It is not a source of regulated financial, mortgage, tax, legal or investment advice, and nothing posted here should be treated as such — whether for you, your firm or your clients.
Members must exercise their own professional judgement and comply with their firm's compliance framework and the rules of the FCA and any other applicable regulator.
Views expressed by members are their own
Posts, replies, comments and other contributions reflect the personal views of individual members. They do not represent the views of Adviser Forum, its operators, employees, sponsors, or any firm a member is associated with.
Verification does not represent endorsement
A verified badge indicates that a member has provided information supporting their status as a UK financial services professional. It does not constitute an endorsement, recommendation, referral or warranty by Adviser Forum of that member, their firm, their advice, products or services.
Never share client or personal data
Members must not share, upload, describe or hint at information that could identify a customer, third party or another person. This includes but is not limited to:
- Customer names or partial names
- Addresses, postcodes or other location details
- Account numbers, policy numbers, application or case references
- Dates of birth, NI numbers, ID document numbers
- Financial documents, payslips, bank statements, credit reports, screenshots of client-facing systems
- Any other personal, sensitive or confidential data
Anonymise cases before posting. Content that includes personal data may be removed and the member's account may be suspended.
Independently confirm lender and regulatory information
Lender criteria, product terms, rates and regulatory guidance change frequently. Always confirm current criteria and rules directly with the lender, provider or regulator before relying on anything you read here for a client case.
Content may become outdated
Discussions and replies are point-in-time contributions. Older posts may reference criteria, rates, products, systems or rules that no longer apply. Check dates and confirm current information with a primary source.
Promotional and sponsored content must be identified
Any post, reply or profile content that promotes a product, service, event or firm — whether paid, sponsored, gifted, incentivised or posted on behalf of an employer or partner — must be clearly identified as such. Undisclosed advertising, affiliate links or astroturfing are not permitted.
Community conduct
The following are not permitted on Adviser Forum:
- Abusive, threatening, harassing or discriminatory content
- Impersonation of another person, firm, lender or regulator
- Misleading claims about products, criteria or regulation
- Spam, solicitation and undisclosed advertising
- Sharing another member's personal information without consent
Moderators may remove content, lock discussions, issue warnings or suspend accounts. Report anything that breaches these rules using the report button on the relevant post, reply or profile.
Your data and closing your account
You can download a copy of your account data, update your personal information, change email preferences, withdraw optional marketing consent, close your account or request deletion at any time from Privacy settings.
Closing your account clears your personal profile fields — name, avatar, company, job title, bio, location, contact links — and switches off all optional emails. Discussions and replies you have already published stay visible so existing threads remain useful for the community, but they are attributed to "Former member" instead of your name. Direct messages, bookmarks and drafts are removed.
Requesting deletion asks our team to remove your account and personal data. Where content forms part of a public discussion that other members have relied on or replied to, we anonymise the author rather than deleting the post; we will confirm by email what has been removed and what has been retained in anonymised form.
Data-handling requests are logged and reviewed by an admin. We aim to respond within a reasonable time and will contact you at your registered email address.
