Referral arrangements with accountants, solicitors, estate agents and other advisers are a common growth route, and the results reported by firms differ enormously for apparently similar arrangements.
This matters because building a referral relationship takes months of unpaid effort, and a poor arrangement consumes the same time as a productive one.
Discussion questions:
- Which referral relationships have produced consistent, good-quality introductions for you?
- What made the difference — the sector, the individual, or how the arrangement was set up?
- Where have referral arrangements quietly failed, and why?
Please avoid promoting your own services or naming firms you would like introductions from.
One request before you reply: please describe what you have actually seen rather than what is generally said to be true. Broad claims about what advisers think are far less useful than a specific, anonymised observation, and firms should always take their own compliance view on anything discussed here.
