Conferences, roadshows and provider seminars all compete for the same scarce commodity: a working day away from clients. The value of each varies by role, region and stage of career.
This matters because the cost of attending is rarely the ticket. It is the pipeline that does not move that day, which makes the choice of event a genuine business decision.
Discussion questions:
- Which events have justified the time for you, and what made them worthwhile?
- Is the value usually in the content, the conversations, or something else?
- What would make you attend a smaller regional event over a large national one?
Please avoid promoting events you have a commercial interest in.
One request before you reply: please describe what you have actually seen rather than what is generally said to be true. Broad claims about what advisers think are far less useful than a specific, anonymised observation, and firms should always take their own compliance view on anything discussed here.
