What have you learnt from a system migration?

Discussion around AI, CRM systems, sourcing platforms, fintech and adviser technology.

Changing a back-office or CRM system is one of the more disruptive things a small advice firm can do, and the difficulty is usually in the data rather than the software.

This matters because a migration that goes badly can affect client servicing for months, and because the lessons are rarely written down anywhere a firm considering a move can find them.

Discussion questions:

  • What surprised you most during a migration you have been through?
  • How long did it genuinely take compared with what you were told?
  • What would you do differently, and what would you insist on from a supplier?

Please keep supplier comments factual and avoid confidential contract terms.

As always, this is an editorial discussion starter written by Adviser Forum rather than a member opinion. Nothing here is regulated advice, no view expressed should be treated as a settled industry position, and any example you contribute should be anonymised so that no client, colleague or firm can be identified from it.
